1. Global Health

 

 

Global Health is a major database of core public health literature; it includes significant unique content in the areas of tropical medicine, infectious diseases, vector control, food safety and epidemiology.

 

It contains over 1 million records, 95% of which contain informative abstracts. Over 70,000 records are selected, abstracted and classified by subject specialists every year. Including information from more than 3500 serials, as well as a similar number of non-serial sources - books, book chapters, reports, conference proceedings, patents, theses, and electronic-only publications are added annually.

Keyword -   searches a group of subject fields within this database.

 

Mapping -   takes you to a list of subjects taken from the Subject Headings within this database.

 

Choose to search by selecting subjects on the left, choose options on the right. Choosing “Explode” searches for a subject and all of the subjects within the same category.

 

Author, Title and Journal Searching

 

Author - enter a last name and initial(s) to see a list of authors. Choose all the entries required.

 

Title - enter a word or phrase to be searched in the title.

 

Journal -  enter the name of a journal or publication to see a list of publications. Choose all the entries required.

More Fields –  choose here to see a list of all searchable fields within a database. One field, any combination of fields or all fields can be searched (Perform Search) or browsed (Display Indexes). Choose the I icon (or the Field Guide) to see field information.

Broad Terms – a subject field containing, the broader subject categories for subjects, locations or organisms in the subject headings.

 

CABICODES/CABICODE Words – the CAB classification search or browse using the numeric codes or words, or use the classification browsing Tool.

 

Descriptor Index – Geographic Locations, Organisms, Subject Headings

 

Geographic Location – places, regions, countries.

 

Identifiers – new or novel subjects

 

Organism Descriptors – names of plants, animals, bacteria etc

 

Subject Headings/Heading Words – subjects from the CAB Thesaurus.

 

Other Fields

 

CAS Registry Numbers – unique numbers which describe chemical substances.

 

E Mail Address – author or contact email address.

 

Institution – location or address or the author, generally companies, academic institutions or government departments.

Original Title – foreign language title for non-English publications.

2. CAB Abstracts (Back to Index)

 

 

The World-renowned CAB Abstracts is the largest professionally-produced database covering international issues in agriculture, forestry, and allied disciplines in the life sciences. The database contains over 4 million records from over 11,000 journals; Books, conferences, reports, and other literature. Subjects covered include animal and crop husbandry, animal and plant breeding, plant protection, genetics, forestry engineering, economics, veterinary medicine, human nutrition, land use and rural development.

3. Medline (Back to Index)

 

 

Probably the most famous medical database in the World, with information on a broad range of health related topics for Doctors, Nurses, Researchers and Administrators. Full-text links are included to the Ovid journals and many free journals available via the Internet.

 

MEDLINE® is the United States National Library of Medicine's premier database providing information on the following subjects: Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Veterinary medicine, Allied health and Pre-clinical sciences. As well, MEDLINE is the primary source of global information from international literature on biomedicine, including the following topics as they relate to biomedicine and health: Biology, Environmental science, Marine biology, Plant and animal science, Biophysics and Chemistry

 

The Ovid MEDLINE database contains bibliographic citations and author abstracts from more than 4,600 biomedical journals published in the United States and in 70 other countries. The database contains over 13 million citations dating back to the mid-1960's, including more than 130,000 population-related journal citations Although coverage is worldwide, most records are derived from English-language sources or have English abstracts. Abstracts are included for more than 75% of the records.

 

NLM uses a controlled vocabulary of terms to index articles, to catalog books and other holdings, and to facilitate searching within MEDLINE. MEDLINE’s controlled-vocabulary thesaurus contains Medical Subject Headings (MeSH®) to describe the subject of each journal article in this database.

4. LWW and LWW Archive Journals (Back to Index)

 

 

The LWW Journals database links to all the bibliographic databases to provide full-text access. It is also a separate database, which allows you to completely search every journal article.

Byline Text – the text which describes the affiliations of all the authors, often larger than the institution entry and other information about the source of the article

Presented using the WebSpirs interface, Humanities Full Text brings you full text with abstracts and bibliographic indexing for the most noted scholarly journals in the humanities, as well as many important specialized magazines.

 

Humanities Abstracts Full Text contains abstracting and indexing coverage for all 500 periodicals included in Wilson’s Humanities Index as well as the full text of over 160 periodicals, offering instant access to information from publications such as: American Journalism Review; American Poetry Review; Art Journal; Asian Folklore Studies; Canadian Journal of History; Central European History; Contemporary Review; Dance Magazine; Film Criticism; Journal of Popular Culture; Opera News; Perspectives of New Music; Scandinavian Studies; World Literature Today.
