Full Text Features

Ovid distills the best techniques from traditional research methods and enhances them with tools and features that can only be delivered with electronic media. Ovid Full Text is an integrated information access system that builds on the natural research process. Ovid Full Text is live text, not page images. It is delineated with special content tags so that it can be searched in an array of fields, from author names to caption text.

Currently Ovid delivers the enhanced journal articles and graphics for more than 45 of the world's leading journals with several dozen more due to be released soon. In 1997, the Ovid will add more than 350 new journals in the scientific, technical and medical fields to the titles available through Ovid as live electronic full text.

The following are some of the key features of Ovid Full Text:

• Built on the power of Ovid. Ovid Full Text builds on the advanced Ovid search software. Users can search bibliographic databases with Ovid for complete coverage and precise selection of citations, then link to the full text and graphics of the journal articles they want with, Ovid Full Text. Customers, Libraries, and Institutions with locally installed bibliographic databases will be able to link to Ovid Full Text stored at a remote site.

• Full Searchability. Every component of the full text documents is completely searchable in its own defined field -- every text word, section heading, caption, and reference.

• All Graphics Available. Photographs and other graphics are displayed in high resolution with their captions. They can be printed in full color on color printers.

• Hypertext Navigation. Document browsing is enhanced through an Outline menu and extensive use of hypertext links from one part of a document to another, and between multiple documents.

• References Include Abstracts and Links. Browse an author's references in-context using hypertext features. Connect immediately to the full MEDLINE record for any reference, then to its full text (if available from Ovid.)
